To Women On This July 4th Holiday!

July 3, 2012

Margaret Bourke-White and Emma Lazarus

This is a poster I put together this July 3rd afternoon while waiting for a phone call.

The photograph is of the Statue Of Liberty by Margaret Bourke-White. It’s a pretty stunning shot and you start to recall why Margaret  is a legend. The text is from the poem, The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus which is on the pedestal of the status, welcoming all people to the American shores. The words have such a strong resonance and so benevolent.

We don’t seem to recognize women’s roles enough over July 4th….I thought I would try to change that a bit by this memorial to three great ladies: The statue of Liberty, Margaret Bourke White, and Emma Lazarus.

Happy 4th of July, Everyone!
